Survey on Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (SDH)

This survey is designed in a way that everybody able to read can participate, whether hearing, deaf or hard-of-hearing. You don't need to have former experience with using subtitles.

Thank your for your interest in my survey on SDH (Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing). These subtitles have features that set them apart from standard subtitles (the latter being simply intended to make audiovisual content in a foreign language): for, example, they show sounds that cannot be deduced from the image, or they identify speakers, features that can be very helpful (or even essential) for deaf and hard-of-hearing people.

You can take part in this survey completely anonymously. Your anonymised responses will be analysed as part of my Master’s thesis at the Faculty of Translation Studies, Linguistics, and Cultural Studies (FTSK Germersheim), University of Mainz, Germany.

The survey will take you around 30-60 minutes to complete, depending on the answers you give. (It contains numerous video examples.) You can pause the process at any time and resume it after choosing a (fictitious) username and password.

Thank you for participating!

This survey is anonymous.

The record of your survey responses does not contain any identifying information about you, unless a specific survey question explicitly asked for it.

If you used an identifying access code to access this survey, please rest assured that this code will not be stored together with your responses. It is managed in a separate database and will only be updated to indicate whether you did (or did not) complete this survey. There is no way of matching identification access codes with survey responses.
